Are You Like Scrat?
Minister Shari Cuesta

2 Thessalonians 2:15 “So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether byword of mouth or by letter” (NIV)

What does Scrat (the squirrel in Ice Age) have in common with Ken Carter(Coach Carter), Chris Gardner (The Pursuit of Happiness), and Carl Brashear (Men of Honor)? Despite all odds, Scrat was bound and determined to chase, attain, and hold onto that acorn of his, never fearing calamity, injury, or possible loss of life. Each of these individuals displayed determination, perseverance, and steadfastness in the face of adversity.

To be steadfast is to be “firm in purpose; fixed indirection; unwavering” (Dictionary.com).Today’s passage urges us to “stand firm.” But as humans, it’s impossible to do this in our own strength, in every situation we face. The enemy knows how to get us at our weakest point so that we are knocked off our feet rather than standing firm. For that matter, sometimes we trip ourselves up and end up flat on our faces because of our own disobedience.

So how do we remain steadfast?

1.     The POWER of God: “To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy” Jude 1:24 (NIV)

2.     The PRESENCE of God: “I have set the LORD always before me.Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 16:8 (NIV)

3.     TRUSTING in God: “Vindicate me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity. I have also trusted in the LORD: I shall not slip.” Psalm26:1 (NKJV)

4.     The INTERCESSION of Christ: “But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” Luke 22:32 (NKJV)

Like Scrat with his acorn, let’s determine to stand firm and hold on to God, never wavering in purpose, focus, or direction.

Father, thank You for another day to serve and praise You.Thank You for the circumstances we face that allow us to stand firm in You.Please give us the steadfastness in spirit to rely on Your power, to dwell in Your presence, to trust in Your Word, and to depend on the intercession of Your Son. In the Name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
