Why Wander in Wonder?

James 1:5 - If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Life is full of surprises. Some things are expected while others are unexpected. When things come unexpectedly, they often cause us to pause and think about our next move. And, depending on the depth of the unexpected, we may find ourselves in a extensive quandary—unsure of what to do next.

As much as we say we need God, we trust God, we believe God, and His word, why do we so often forget to ask him for direction FIRST, and try to resolve things on our own? Of course, God wants us to be able to function and “handle our business” if you will, but why not seek his guidance and “expertise" FIRST?

It's generally after we exhaust all our efforts that we seek God. What a waste of time and energy! James cuts through the chase. If you don’t know what to do, then ask God to help you make a wise decision for your unexpected surprise. He’s waiting to be asked and gives answers, liberally.

Father, help me to seek you FIRST in all that I do. I know that you are wise, and that you are omniscient. In the midst of my uncertainty, help me not to make rash decisions or judgments that will cause me to be in error or miss your perfect will for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
